Well, I'm doing it again. I've decided to take on another new interest... but this time it has been a long time coming. I have always wanted to illustrate children's books, but only recently has the urge compelled me to action.
I took a class on Domestika by Melissa Castrillón, talked to a contact I have in the publishing world, and now I am starting to assemble a portfolio of the type of work I could contribute to the industry. So far? Very fun.
I decided to start small by designing a few book covers in a young adult style, taking classics in the public domain as my subject matter.
Here are my concept sketches:

I had so much fun making these! I think I will ultimately execute several of them, but I started with the one that called to me; the one that seemed within reach of my current style and preference for plants: The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.
Here is my color sketch:

And after watching endless episodes of Beef on Netflix, I finished the final version. (I used Procreate on my iPad Pro.)

So pumped! Ready to take on some more! Any ideas what I should do next?
